Essay on Good Manner in English

Decent behaviour in society is called good manners. Good manners means civilized treatment of a man towards others. Generous conduct to other persons is also a quality of good manners. To pay regard to guest too means good manners.

Behaviour without envy or malice, pride or greed, anger or love, is said to be good manners. Good manners have three main characteristic qualities. Firstly, there should be politeness and courtesy in the behaviour. They are the base of good manners. Use of polite words, as "Thank you," "Please", "Sorry”, “Sir”, are very necessary to create a good influence upon others. Suppose one calls you and in response you say, “Yes” or “No”. These words are not of good manners. But if you say, "Yes sir” or “No sir", you will create a good influence upon others. If some one comes to you and you welcome him with a smile and greet him. This behaviour will also come under good manners. Moreover to help a blind man while crossing a road or transmit some wounded person to hospital for treatment are also the examples of good behaviour. On the contrary eating or laughing while walking or abusing or quarrelling or harassing some old person or crippled one are the unmannerly deeds.

Its second quality is not to interfere the mattes of others. It is out of etiquette if one meddles the conversation of two persons or laughs at one's defects. Unmannerly person is a burden not only on society but also on the nation.

Its third characteristic quality is to keep the rules. Man is a social being. He should follow all the rules of his society and religion. It is a sign of civility. To enter any religious place like temple, mosque, gurdwara, wearing shoes is forbidden. To follow this rule comes under good manners. The rules of a school are not to leave the class while the class-work is going on, not to talk, not to make a noise in absence of the teacher and to keep the class clean and tidy. To obey all such rules is the duty of students and are good manners.

So, if every man determines to follow good manners, he will be respected in his society.
