The world is very vast but the invention of science has made it very small. If anything happens in a corner of the universe, we get its information in a very short time. On the next day the whole matter is published in newspapers. So, every morning people wait very anxiously for the newspaper to know the news of the world. Of course newspaper is such a means as may give us all the news of the universe daily.
The first newspaper was published at Venice in Europe. In India the first publication of newspaper was started in 1835 A.D. Newspapers tell us what incidents have happened at different places in various countries. Many kinds of advertisements are also published in them. A jobless person may know about vacancies from the newspapers. Readers also get enough matter of amusement in them. Epigrams, humorous talks, stories, puzzles, cartoons, poems, etc. are also published in them.
Though newspapers have many advantages yet sometimes they publish false information which create communal riots. Sometimes their wrong news may create enemity between two different classes or parties. Some papers publish the cases of murder, rape and other vulgar news only to increase their sale. This makes an ill effect upon the minds of youths.
Newspapers have a great value in democracy. If they publish true matters with no favour of any party or person they are useful to the people as well as to democracy. If they handle every matter in a proper way, they are useful to the nation and the country.
