Essay on "Red Fort" in English

The Red Fort of Delhi is an ancient historical memorial. It was built with red stones by Mughal emperor, Shahajahan. It stands on the right bank of the Yamuna river. Though many centuries have passed yet it retains the same glory of the past.

This vast building built by Mughal emperor Shahajahan covers a big area of many square metres. It has two main gates. After taking a ticket one may enter the front gate of the Red Fort. It has beautiful shops on its both sides. Passing on a short distance, we reach the place where the royal court used to be held during the Mughal rule. It is called Diwan-i-am. Just in front of it, there is a seat for the famous throne of Mughal emperor, Shahajahan which was called Takhat-i-Taus or Mayyur throne. It has peacocks on both of its sides. Passing through such big halls we reach a place, which is called Diwan-i-khas. Then passing through Barahadariès (big halls), we reach the roof of the Red Fort.

The walls of Barahadaries in the Red Fort are decorated with beautiful paintings. Here the engraved pictures and flowery decoration in marble remind us the ancient art.

Our Prime minister unfurls the tri-colour flag on the parapet of the main gate of the Red-fort on August 15, every year. At present some Indian military offices are kept inside the Red Fort. There is also a museum inside it. Here arms of the old times are kept. There is also a big tunnel under the Red Fort.

The Red Fort is kept open for ever for the visitors. Its glory has increased more in free India. We only wish that this living specimen of our ancient culture should remain permanent for ever.
