Essay on Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru in English

          Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru is highly regarded as one of the renowned dignitaries not only of India but also of the world. He sacrificed his everything for the sake of freedon, and welfare of his country. Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru was born at Anand Bhawan in Allahabad on November 14, 1889 A.D. His father Pt. Moti Lal Nehru was a leading lawyer of his time. The name of his mother was Smt. Swaroop Rani Nehru.


Jawahar Lal Nehru came of an aristocratic family. His childhood passed in a felicific and comfortable atmosphere at Anand Bhawan in Allahabad. He received his early education at home. Thereafter, he went to England to get higher education. Nehruji, after completing his education, actively took part in the struggle for freedom with sentiments of independence. Thus Pt. Nehru started his political life.

In 1916, he was married to Kamla. She was a true helpmate to him in his life. A daughter named Indra Priyadarshani was born in his family in 1917 A.D. After some days Nehruji became the member of the Indian National Congress. He was greatly influenced by Mahatma Gandhi and became his ardent follower. Many times he was put behind the bars for freedom of his country.

On August 15, 1947, India became a free country and Pt. Nehru was elected the first Prime minister of India. He did his best to improve the condition of our country politically, economically and socially. He always followed the principles and ideals of Mahatma Gandhi. His name will ever be remembered as an apostle of peace. Nehru's doctrine of ‘Panch Sheel' is still honoured. 

Nehruji had much affection with the children. They called him “Chacha Nehru”. Even today his birth day is celebrated as “Children's Day." He was patient, sober, lover of art, great thinker, writer and wise politician. This pioneer and builder of Modern India breathed his last on May 27, 1965 A.D. The memory of Jawahar Lal Nehru will ever be cherished by the Indians with love and respect.
