Essay on Independence day in English

Freedom is the birthright of a man. August 15 has been written in golden letters in Indian History. We got freedom on this day in 1947 A.D. Since then we celebrate this day as a festival of freedom with full delight and rejoicing throughout the country.

The English kept their possession upon our country for centuries. The patriots of the country tried regularly to make their country free. But they were not successful. Our country could get freedom only by the regular efforts of our great leaders like Lokemanya Tilak, Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Jawahar Lal Nehru, Sardar Patel, Rajendra Prasad, etc. So, the worth of this freedom in our country is more than our life.
On the day of freedom, schools, colleges, factories and other institutions remain closed. On this day, in the capital of the country the Prime minster hoists the National Flag from the rampart of the Red-fort. Then he delivers his speech to the nation. The twenty-one guns are shot as a salute to the National flag. And finally, the National song is recited.

On this occasion, men, women, young and old all are happy. As soon as it is morning, the groups of boys and young men come out and move into the streets with flags of try colours. The sky echoes with the sky-renting slogans: 'Victory to Mother India', 'Victory to Mahatma Gandhi', 'Victory to Subhas Chandra Bose', etc. Processions are taken out and meetings are held at different places.

Programmes are launched in every school in the country. Games and cultural programmes are arranged. Finally, sweets are distributed among boys and girls.

Independence day is our National Festival. After a great struggle, we have attained freedom. Now, it is our duty to safeguard it even at the cost of our life.
