Essay on Lal Bahadur Shastri in English

Lal Bahadur Shastri was considered to be the Man of His age. He was one of the greatest patriots of the country. He was a very simple man. After the death of Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru, he was elected as the second Prime minister of India.

Lal Bahadur Shastri was born at Mughal Sarai, a small town in the district of Varanasi on October 2. 1904 A.D. His father was an ordinary teacher. When his father died, Shastri ji was only one and a half year old. Then he was brought up by his mother Smt. Ram Dulari. Shastriji completed his primary education in a school of Varanasi. At the call of Gandhiji he left his education only at the age of seventeen years and joined the Indian National Movement of freedom. He was sentenced to an imprisonment for two and a half year. When he was released, he re-started his studies at Kashi Vidya Peeth and got the degree of Shastri. Since then he was called Lal Bahadur Shastri.

In 1937, he was elected as a member of the Legislative Assembly of U.P. In 1947, when the new cabinet of U.P. came into existence under the leadership of Pantji, he became the home minister of the state. Seeing his work and sense of duty, Pt. Nehru called him to Delhi in 1951, to look after the work of election.

In 1956, he was elected as the member of the Parliament from Allahabad constituency and became the minister of Transport and communication in the cabinet of Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru.

Lal Bahadur Shastri, by nature, was peaceful, sober, sweet and modest. He was the man of unique intelligence. India defeated Pakistan in war, under his leadership. This incident made him very popular. Of course Lal Bahadur was the Man of his age. He was proficient in every sphere of action.
