Essay on "A Visit to the Zoo" in English

The zoo of Delhi, the queen of gardens, is one of the biggest and important zoo of Asia. The zoo means a place where living animals are kept for exhibition, study and breeding.

The extensive zoo of Delhi spreads over 250 acres of land. Its main gate is situated on the Mathura road near the Purana Quila. A vast variety of birds and animals are kept here in their natural habitats. This zoo was built under the supervision of biologists and zoologists. We get its entry by tickets.

The beautiful gardens, the grassy lands, the flower beds and the shady trees make its environment more attractive and beautiful. Black and white ducks and swans are seen swimming in pools of crystal clear water.

My cousin Pallavi came to India from America with her parents. I went with her to visit the zoo. It was Sunday. The number of visitors was large. I bought two tickets at the gate and we went in. Green grass and flowers of different colours on both sides of the path looked very charming and beautiful.

The first creatures that we saw were the ducks and the swans that were swimming in the clean water of the pool. Pallavi was very happy to see the colourful birds, white crows, shyama birds, white peacocks and different types of parrots and birds in birds' enclosures. Colourful sparrows in their cages looked very charming. High necked ostrich, the largest bird in the world was also very amusing and attractive. Some migratory birds that come here every year during summer also looked beautiful and delightful.

At one enclosure, there were monkeys. They were a good entertainment for the children. Then we went to a building where tigers, lions, wolves, foxes were kept in cages. Lastly we came to a place where we saw several elephants. Visitors were mounting the elephants on payment of a fee. We also saw some living crocodiles, hippopotamus, etc.

Such visits of zoos increase our knowledge about animal life as well as they give us entertainment. At evening We left the zoo and came back home with a happy heart.
